Evan Almighty

Newly elected to Congress, Evan (Steve Carell) leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark because of a flood coming upon the earth. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.

Evan Baxter and Bruce Nolan were colleagues and rivals on their Buffalo TV station in the previous film, Bruce Almighty, where Evan was contending for Bruce's role as head anchor. In this film, Evan leaves behind the role of head anchor for a career in Washington. With the move, he hopes both to serve his country and reconnect his family. Everything seems to be going well for Evan (other than Congressman Long (John Goodman) acting as a shady land developer behind his back) when God appears and explains of the coming flood and the need to build an ark.
